The next week, Munishkanth, Bala Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, RJ Vijay and Sivaangi Krishnakumar, who was known for her appearance in Star Vijay's reality show Cooku With Comali, were also announced as part of the cast. Soori who also collaborated with the actor in several films based on rural settings ( Varuthapadaatha Vaalibar Sangam, Rajinimurugan, Seemaraja and Namma Veettu Pillai), joined for the first time in an urban-setting film. Priyanka reunited with Sivakarthikeyan in the film, which marked their second collaboration after Doctor.
On 3 February 2021, the makers announced the principal cast of the film which included Priyanka Arul Mohan, S. Surya ( left) and Priyanka Arul Mohan ( right) were cast as the leads. When he was working as an assistant director to Atlee in Mersal (2017), the film's star Vijay watched the short and appreciated his work, motivating him to work on an extended version of the pilot film to be his directorial debut. He said Bittu was initially scheduled to be premiered on television, but due to difficulties, he instead released it as a short film on the internet. In an interview with Ananda Vikatan, Chakravarthi described Don as an extended version of a pilot film titled Bittu, starring Kaali Venkat and Bala Saravanan. Sivakarthikeyan was rumoured to appear as a school student for few portions in the film, and also reduced weight for his role. It was directed by Cibi Chakaravarthi, an associate director of Atlee, with Anirudh Ravichander being the music composer. The project was officially announced on 27 January 2021, which was titled as Don and the actor himself co-produced the film under his Sivakarthikeyan Productions banner. In September 2020, Sivakarthikeyan announced another new project for Lyca Productions with a debutant director hired to helm the project. In a turn of events, Lyca Productions backed out of producing the venture and Vignesh Shivan too prioritised to revive his shelved project Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal which went on floors in late-2020. Vignesh also finalised the script for the film in June 2019, as the project is scheduled to begin production the following month. In March 2019, Lyca Productions announced another project featuring Sivakarthikeyan and Vignesh Shivan with Anirudh Ravichander set to score music. However, the film failed to materialise and in March 2018, and Sivakarthikeyan instead agreed to do another film for Raja, which became the M. Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green also obtained its rights for the forthcoming project. In August 2017, Sivakarthikeyan was reported to collaborate with his friend Vignesh Shivan, post Suriya's Thaanaa Serndha Koottam, with the films producer K. Gautham Vasudev Menon ( cameo appearance).On the whole it is a film which is entertaining and at the same time different in its approach. The supporting cast of friends and owner of the restaurant Adukalam Narain, Pooja makes it creepy and interesting. Vijay Sethupathy is the right choice as the pizza delivery boy and he shines while Ramya Nambisan is endearing as the cunning Anu. Why go on dragging the paranormal activities in the bungalow in the first half, with scenes being repeated? On the downside you can see red herrings towards interval point. Technically the film is good with Gopi Amarnath the cameraman able to create the required dread and editing of Leo John Paul which increases the anxiety. Dwelling further on the story and packaging would be a spoiler. The last 10 minutes with a stunning ending have all the answers which you were seeking in the 127 minute film. But Karthik has been able to create the adequate dread and suspense in the mind of the audiences ? Is Michael hallucinating or is he telling the truth? The director seems to be heavily influenced by Manoj Night Shyamalan and his type of films of ?seeing dead people?, with several nods to The Sixth Sense and Shining. The background score and music of Santosh Narayan ( Attakathi fame) is a major plus. One day Michael on a home delivery to a mysterious bungalow stumbles into something creepy that changes his life forever.ĭebutant director Karthik Subburaj?s premise, milieu and overall packaging of this romantic thriller make this Pizza crispy at the same time yummy. However Anu warns him and tells him- ?your moment will come?. Michael does not believe in ghosts or about paranormal activities. He has a live-in relationship with his girlfriend Anu (Ramya Nambisan), who is an avid reader of ghost stories. Our hero Michael (Vijay Sethupathy) is a pizza delivery boy.
